How to write eBay clothing titles that get found (UK)
Buyers find clothes on eBay by searching, and the title is what search reads first. A good title is just the facts a buyer types, in the order they type them. Here's the formula, with examples.

The formula
Brand + item type + key detail + size + colour + one or two features.
- Brand
- Barbour
- Item type
- Wax Jacket
- Department + size
- Mens M
- Colour
- Olive Green
- Features
- Corduroy Collar Flap Pockets
- Title (70 characters)
- Barbour Wax Jacket Mens M Olive Green Corduroy Collar Flap Pockets
Illustrative example. Only use details you can see on the item or its labels.
Use the space, but only for facts
eBay gives you 80 characters. Short titles leave out words buyers search for. Fill the space with real details: fit (slim, oversized), fabric from the care label, style (crew neck, zip up), era only if you're sure.
Write it the way a buyer would search. "Hoodie" and "hooded sweatshirt" are both worth using if you have room; three copies of "hoodie" are not.
Words that waste space or cause problems
- L@@K, WOW, bargain, must have: nobody searches these.
- Other brands: "not Nike" or "Zara style" puts brands you aren't selling in your title. Marketplaces treat this as keyword spam.
- Genuine / authentic / 100% real: say it with photos of the labels, not words you can't prove.
- New, BNWT or unworn on a used item: buyers will open a 'not as described' return.
- ALL CAPS: harder to read. Capitalise each word instead.
Size: the filter buyers use first
Put the size from the label in the title, written the way it appears (M, UK 12, W32 L30). If there's no size label, don't guess. Say so in the description and add measurements laid flat.
